President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Recipient of the 2022 Oxi Courage Award, Named TIME Person of the Year

WASHINGTON, DC, December 8, 2022 – Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who on October 27 received the Oxi Courage Award, yesterday was named TIME Magazine 2022 Person of the Year.

TIME noted that, “Zelenskyy’s success as a wartime leader has relied on the fact that courage is contagious. It spread through Ukraine’s political leadership in the first days of the invasion, as everyone realized the President had stuck around.”

In addition, TIME named the Women of Iran as their 2022 Heroes of the Year. Prominent Iranian-American women’s rights activist Masih Alinejad, who has become the face of this women’s revolution in Iran, received the 2022 Oxi Courage Award alongside President Zelenskyy on October 27.

Other distinguished Oxi Courage Award recipients who have received similar recognitions include: 2016 Oxi Courage Award Recipient Nadia Murad who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and was named TIME Person of the Year in 2016; 2019 Oxi Courage Award Recipient Maria Ressa who received the Nobel  Peace Prize in 2021 and was named TIME Person of the year in 2018.
