WASHINGTON, DC, November 29, 2023 – Decorated Vietnam veteran John Calamos presented fellow distinguished Vietnam veteran Harris Pappas with the 2023 Calamos Service Award on October 23 at the National World War II Memorial.
Harris Pappas was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served one year in Thailand and on year in Vietnam and was awarded two Bronze Stars and three Army Commendation medals for his service. Prior to his service, Harris attended Schreiner Institute for two years in high school and continued his education at Texas A&M University where he earned two bachelor’s degrees: one in Finance and one in Accounting.

Calamos, who serves as Chairman of the National Hellenic Museum and as Chairman and Global Chief Investment Officer of Calamos Investments, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by President Nixon for “extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight under heavy hostile attack near Thuong Duc Special Forces Camp in Southeast Asia on 28 September 1968.”
Calamos received the Foundation’s 2019 Jaharis Service Award for his service and for his many contributions to the community and to the world, in the spirit of Michael Jaharis.
