Christopher Mehiel, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 81, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 20, prior to the U.S. entry into World War II, and was trained as a pilot. When the U.S. later entered the war, Mehiel transferred to the Army Air Corps and was deployed to the Far East, where he flew C-47 air-craft over “The Hump” between India and China.
