Twenty Countries Join In 2013 Washington Oxi Day Foundation Celebration

News

Washington, DC –  Senior officials representing 20 countries, which have a combined population of 1.23 billion people, will be participating next week in the Third Annual Washington Oxi Day Celebration. Their participation will help remind today’s world that the people who created democracy and freedom in the ancient world also played an instrumental role in saving it in the modern world during World War II.

World humanitarian and entertainer Bono‘s deep involvement in this year’s activities will also help spread this important story, as will the participation of other high profile officials including House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Menendez and Chairman of the House Middle East Subcommittee, Ileana-Ros-Lehtinen.

Today’s world will learn forgotten quotes by the Allied leaders British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American President Franklin Roosevelt and Russian Premier Joseph Stalin crediting Greece as being instrumental to the defeat of Hitler’s Axis Forces. The world will be reminded that it was the people of Greece who produced modern history’s most consequential act of David vs. Goliath courage — “Oxi Day” and other acts of bravery during WWII.

The 20 countries that will be represented at this year’s events include: Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Montenegro, Spain, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
