Please join us October 24-25 in Washington, DC as we:

  1. Remind the world of the day Greece refused to surrender, inflicting a fatal wound that brought down the Axis Forces in WWII, and
  2. Recognize modern day heroes who exemplify the Oxi Day Spirit by courageously fighting for freedom and democracy around the world.

Events include:

  • Black Tie Dinner and Presentation of Oxi Day Awards honoring modern heroes of democracy and freedom at the Organization of American States building. Award recipients are Kenyan journalist and anti-corruption crusader John Githongo, who will be introduced via video by Bono, and Cuban dissident and leader of the Women in White Berta Soler. (October 24)
  • Presentation of the Greatest Generation Awards honoring WWII veterans at the National WWII Memorial. Honorees include John Dingell, American WWII veteran and longest serving member of the U.S. Congress in history; Konstantinos Korkas, Greek WWII veteran and four star general; and Greek-American WWII Veteran Christopher Mehiel (posthumously). Keynote speaker is Jim Chanos.  (October 24)
  • Presentation of the Metropolitan Chrysostomos Award, recognizing action against anti-Semitism and discrimination, to Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee  David Harris at the U.S. Capitol Building.  (October 24)
  • Wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington Cemetery in honor of those who lost their lives defending freedom and democracy during WWII. (October 25)
