Please join us October 24-25 in Washington, DC as we:
- Remind the world of the day Greece refused to surrender, inflicting a fatal wound that brought down the Axis Forces in WWII, and
- Recognize modern day heroes who exemplify the Oxi Day Spirit by courageously fighting for freedom and democracy around the world.
Events include:
- Black Tie Dinner and Presentation of Oxi Day Awards honoring modern heroes of democracy and freedom at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel. Award recipients are Chinese dissident and human rights activist Chen Guangcheng, who received international attention in May when the U.S. facilitated his escape from China, and Pakistani women’s rights activist Dr. Fouzia Saeed. The keynote speaker will be the United States’ first Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte. (October 25)
- Presentation of the Greatest Generation Awards honoring WWII veterans at the National WWII Memorial featuring His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America. (October 24)
- Presentation of the Metropolitan Chrysostomos Award, recognizing action against anti-Semitism and discrimination, to Professor Elie Wiesel at ceremony co-hosted with American Jewish Committee at 6th and I Historic Synagogue. (October 25)
