WASHINGTON, DC — Bono, the 2013 Washington Oxi Day participant and international human rights activist, received a Golden Globe Award at the 71st annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 12th. His song “Ordinary Love,” featured in the movie “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom,” won the Golden Globe for best original song.
Bono selected for the Oxi Day Foundation its 2013 Oxi Day Award winner John Githongo of Kenya, who was honored for the courage he showed – in the spirit of Oxi Day – risking his life to fight corruption and promote democratic values in Kenya. Bono introduced Githongo via video at the 3rd Annual Oxi Day Foundation Awards banquet on October 24, 2013.
In his speech at the Oxi Day banquet, Bono referred to the:
“…courage of the Greek people who stood up so valiantly for freedoms and democracy in the Second World War against the seemingly unstoppable Nazis. There are the moments of human grit and defiance that we’re right to celebrate.”
