WWII Veteran Dennis Georges Honored with 2024 Haseotes Service Award

WASHINGTON, DC, November 27th, 2024 – WWII Veteran Dennis Georges was posthumously honored with the 2024 Vasilios S. Haseotes Service Award  at the 14th Annual OXI Service Awards at the National WWII Memorial in Washington, DC on October 30. John Georges received the award on behalf of his father and Washington OXI Day Foundation Executive Director Mike Manatos introduced Georges and presented the award. 

Dennis Georges  joined the Greek resistance as a guerilla fighter during the occupation in WWII, fought the Communists during the Greek Civil War and later became a member of the Royal Hellenic Air Force serving as part of the U.N. contingent in Korea. 

He later received the Truman Citation, which was presented to him by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, and was decorated by the president of South Korea and King Pavlos of Greece.

Each year the Haseotes Service Award recognizes the service and many contributions of a distinguished Greek American veteran in the spirit of  Vasilios S. Haseotes, a decorated World War I veteran. Haseotes posthumously received the Foundation’s OXI Service Award in 2019. The first  Haseotes Service Award was presented to World War II veteran  Efthemios J. “Tim” Bentas in 2021. 

John Georges, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National World War II Muesum in New Orleans, LA, brought with him to this ceremony the President and CEO of the Museum, Stephen Watson, who delivered the keynote address at the OXI Service Awards.
